Newcastle Upon Tyne

Newcastle upon Tyne, in Tyne and Wear, North East England, can be found on the River Tyne’s north bank. Modern Newcastle has a vibrant culture, excellent shopping facilities and a lively night life. It is a city of icons such as the Tyne Bridge, Newcastle Brown Ale and premier league football club Newcastle United football club. Numerous art galleries and theatres can be found around the city and its localities: The Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art’s building is a refurbished flour mill that has a varied exhibition programme, and the futuristic all glass Sage building hosts music and theatre performances all year round. Both are just over the Tyne via the Gateshead Millennium Bridge which links them to Newcastle Law courts on Quay side. Newcastle itself also enjoys several venues for pop concerts and productions.
Each year since 1981, the great North Run takes place in the city, and is the most popular half marathon in the world. There are numerous destinations you can ‘run’ to with a coach tour with our minibus hire service, the choice is yours. There are many potential destinations within Newcastle itself but some examples further afield include:

Hadrian’s Wall

Enjoy a trip to Roman Britain’s biggest building project: Hadrian’s Wall. Work started on the wall in 122 AD, and it remained occupied until the 5th Century AD. The archaeological marvel was made a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1987. The wall links the Tyne Estuary at Walls End, with the Solway Firth on the West Coast of Cumbria and remains completely unguarded from the public. There are several places of interest along the monument well worth a visit including the Housesteads and Birdoswald Roman Forts. An extensive rambling trail, The Hadrian’s Wall Trail, runs alongside the monument. The breathtaking scenery and countryside either side of the wall is also a highlight of any tour along its 73 miles.

Beamish Open Air Museum

The North of England Open Air Museum at Beamish located near Stanley in County Durham, is a fantastic day out for one and all. The museum preserves examples of everyday life in rural and urban North East England in the late 19th and early 20th century although some parts cover the first part of the 19th century. The 300-acre site features relocated buildings: original and replica’s, as well as an extensive collection of artefacts, machinery, working vehicles, and livestock. The museum staff wear period costume too, adding to the museums authentic visitor experience. As well as being a significant educational resource since it opened in 1972, it continues to act as a traditional north-country and rare livestock breeds centre.
